Doing this directional split step will improve the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">speed\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">of your movement. The split step is an\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">anticipation movement<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0which means you need to begin\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">initiating before<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0your opponent hits their shot. There may be times when you don\u2019t really need to do an obvious split step \u2013 for example, when you hit an attacking shot in the rear court and follow it up with a running step into the net.<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ba10d7e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ba10d7e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5 style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>3) Doing the split step\u00a0too soon.<\/b><\/h5><p style=\"color: #333333;\">You have to wait to see where the shuttle is going before you can move, unless of course you anticipate ahead of their shot and start moving towards where you think the shuttle is going.<\/p><p style=\"color: #333333;\">If you do your split step too early, you will lose<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u00a0the energy and force<\/span>\u00a0created from the split step. This might mean you are late to the shuttle or even worse, you don\u2019t get to it in time!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ee30f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0ee30f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>4) Jumping in the split step.<\/b><\/span><\/h5><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The split step is an explosive movement,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">not a jump<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">! Jumping any higher than the width of the grip of a racket is inefficient and will slow your movement down! This is because your bodyweight is travelling in a downwards direction with force and you then need to counter this force to move sidewards to the shot.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b00277f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b00277f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><b><span style=\"color: #333333;\">5) Having a stance that is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">too narrow<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0or\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">too wide.<\/span><\/b><\/h5><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">This will limit your efficiency when trying to move in any direction.<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ce39c8b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ce39c8b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><b><span style=\"color: #333333;\">6)\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Landing with your feet at exactly the same time.<\/b><\/span><\/h5><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">As we mentioned earlier in <a href=\"#Step2\"><b><u>Step 2<\/u><\/b><\/a>, you don\u2019t want to land with your feet at exactly the same time.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Landing with the leg that\u2019s furthest away from where you want to go FIRST helps you move faster in that direction because it helps your body naturally start moving that way!\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">However, the only time you wouldn\u2019t do this is when you\u2019re defending a smash that has come to your body &#8211; this is because you don\u2019t need to move to get this shot. Here you would usually land with your feet at exactly the same time from your split step, or sometimes you might not even need to do a split
